Can you use AI model photos on Amazon, Etsy and Shopify?

Yes on Amazon, provided each image of a photorealistic AI-generated person carries Amazon's synthetic-performer keyword and the main image follows its clothing rule. On Etsy and Shopify, the published limits we checked cover image size and number, and the product still has to be shown honestly. Glammo AI makes on-model images with fictional adult AI models, so this post sets out the rules we checked on 16 October 2026 and what to check before you upload. It is a summary, not legal advice.

Can you use AI model photos on Amazon?

Yes, if you meet two conditions. The first is the main-image rule for adult clothing: the garment on a standing model against pure white, with the product filling 85% of the frame. A Glammo on-model image can be that main image if it shows the front, full length, in a plain light studio scene, and if you check the result before it goes up.

The second is the keyword. Amazon requires contains-synthetic-performer in the XMP dc:subject field of any image showing photorealistic AI-generated people. Every on-model image from Glammo shows a fictional adult AI model, so every one needs the keyword. Packshots show the garment alone, with no person in them.

How to prepare an on-model main image for Amazon

  1. 01

    Make the image

Generate a full-length view of the front in a plain, light studio scene, with nothing else in the frame.

  2. 02

    Check the white

A background that looks white on screen may not be 255, 255, 255. Sample the corners and edges in an image editor and correct the background if it isn't.

  3. 03

    Check the crop

Crop so the product fills 85% of the frame, then confirm the file is still the size you need.

  4. 04

    Add the keyword last

Add contains-synthetic-performer to the XMP dc:subject field of the final file, after cropping and compression, because some editing tools strip metadata when they save.

What does Etsy allow?

Etsy's image help page recommends photos at least 2,000 px wide and tall and allows up to 20 photos and 2 videos per listing. That leaves room for a complete set: on-model images, a detail, the back if you photographed it, a packshot and a Glammo clip in one of the video slots.

The sizes are the part we checked. What an Etsy listing photo must show is set by Etsy's separate listing-photo policy, so read the current version for your item before you rely on AI model photos. Our marketplace guide looks at that policy in more detail. Prepare apparel images for marketplaces

What does Shopify need?

Shopify runs your own store, so its published image limits are technical: square images of 2048 × 2048 px usually display best, images can be up to 5000 × 5000 px, and each file must be under 20 MB. Glammo's default ratio is 4:5. Switch to 1:1 if your theme crops product images to squares, and keep one ratio across a collection so the grid lines up.

What the images say is your responsibility. Describe the garment accurately, give its measurements, and make sure every colour shown is the colour that ships. To add the images, download them from Glammo, then upload them to the product in Shopify.

Shopify also lets you give each image its own alt text, which is worth doing while you upload; our image SEO guide covers what to write. Image SEO for clothing stores

What should you check before uploading anywhere?

  • The current rule

Open the channel's help page on the day you upload. Rules on main images, sizes and AI-generated people change.

  • The garment itself

Compare colour, print, fastenings and length with the real product. Glammo is built to keep them, but AI can miss a detail.

  • Pixel size and file size

Check width, height and file size against the channel's limits after every edit, crop and export.

  • Fit information

Put measurements and fit notes in the listing, because no image, generated or not, measures fit.

  • Permission for the source photo

If you started from a supplier's photo, make sure your agreement lets you use and change it.

  • A record of what went where

Keep the original download and each channel's copy, named by product, colour and view, so a rejected file is quick to replace.

What if a channel rejects an image?

Read the message first and match it to the rule it refers to. Most fixes are to the file you already have: a background that isn't pure white, a crop that leaves too much margin, a file that is too small, or a missing keyword. Correct that file and upload it again rather than making a new image.

Keep a short note of each rejection and its fix next to your channel copies. After a few listings, the note becomes your own checklist, written in the words the channel uses.

A summary, not legal advice

These notes summarise Amazon's US help pages and Etsy's and Shopify's help pages. Rules differ by country and category, and advertising and consumer law apply as well. If you're unsure how a rule applies to your products, ask a qualified adviser.

Common questions

Does Amazon allow AI-generated model photos for clothing?

Amazon's rules cover them directly: an image showing photorealistic AI-generated people must carry the keyword contains-synthetic-performer in its XMP dc:subject field. An adult clothing main image must also show the garment on a standing model on pure white, filling 85% of the frame. Check Amazon's current help pages before you upload.

Does a packshot need Amazon's synthetic-performer keyword?

Amazon's keyword rule applies to images showing photorealistic AI-generated people. A Glammo packshot shows the garment alone on white, ivory or light grey, with no person in it. Read the current rule if you're unsure whether a particular image counts.

What size should Etsy listing photos be?

Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2,000 px wide and tall, and each listing can hold up to 20 photos and 2 videos. Check each downloaded file's dimensions before adding it to a listing.

Do I need to tell shoppers that a model is AI-generated?

Amazon's rule asks for a keyword in the file's metadata rather than a visible label. Whether you also need a visible notice depends on the channel and on the laws where you sell, so check both or ask an adviser; this post isn't legal advice.
